Programme Outline

The Award is a concise qualification designed to give learners a basic knowledge of the various roles, functions and responsibilities of a team leader and the limits of their authority and accountability. The mandatory unit in ‘Developing yourself as a team leader’ is a good starting point for team/cell leaders who are new to their roles or for aspiring leaders who wish to gain a solid understanding of the principles and practicalities of team leading. To provide an understanding of how to lead a team effectively the qualification includes various practical techniques which can be used in day to day team leading activities.

Designed for

The ILM Level 2 Award in Effective Team Leading qualification is especially designed to give practising or aspiring team leaders a solid foundation in their formal development as a leader. It is an ideal programme for those in their first position as a team leader/supervisor.

Structure & Learning Outcomes

Day One

The tutor will take you through an introduction to the Award in Level 2 Team Leading programme along with an introduction and induction to the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).

Day Two

Developing Yourself as a Team leader

  • Understand the roles, functions and responsibilities of the team leader; and the limits of his/her authority and accountability
  • Know how to seek, accept and respond positively to feedback on personal performance to improve workplace performance.

Day Three

Leading your work team

  • Understand the difference between leadership and management.
  • Understand a range of leadership styles, their use and potential impact on individuals and outputs. 

Day Four

Dealing with change in the workplace

  • Understand change in the workplace
  • Know how to support and implement change in the team
  • Know how to deal with conflict in the team

Day Five

  • Tutorial: Group and Individual tutorial to cover assignments for the Award

Day Six

Workplace Communication

  • To develop an understanding of communication as required by a practising or potential team or cell leader.
  • Understand the importance of maintaining accurate records of one to one communication.
  • Understand different methods of communication

Assessment

To achieve the Award candidates must:
 

  • Attend all the workshops
  • Complete the independent work between workshops
  • Complete assessed pieces of written work
  • Complete Reflective Reviews and short answer questions
