Programme Outline

The Award in Management is a concise qualification aimed at developing basic middle management skills and knowledge. The mandatory unit, ‘Understanding the management role’, examines organisational structure and function, the roles and responsibilities of middle managers and the effect of communication and interpersonal skills on managerial performance.

Designed for

The ILM Level 5 Award in Management qualification been especially designed to give practising or aspiring middle managers a solid foundation in their formal development in this role.
 

Structure & Learning Outcomes

Day One

The tutor will take you through an introduction to the programme and induction to the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM). You will also discuss ‘what is leadership?’, Identify your leadership style and understanding your learning style.

Day Two & Three

Understanding the Management Role

  • Understand the organisation’s purpose, stakeholders, structure and functional areas and managerial roles.
  • Understand the specific responsibilities of middle managers in enabling an organisation to achieve its goals.
  • Understand how communication and interpersonal relationships affect managerial performance in the workplace.
  • Evaluate personal development opportunities to improve own managerial performance.
     

Day Four, Five & Six

Developing and Leading Teams to achieve organisational goals and objectives

  • To develop understanding and ability in developing and leading teams, as required by a practising or potential middle manager.
  • Understand the importance of leading teams to achieve organisational goals and objectives
  • Tutorial: Delegates will be guided and supported with assignment work.

 

Day Seven & Eight

Managing Stress and Conflict in the organisation

  • Understand the effectiveness of own organisation in dealing with workplace stress and conflict
  • Be able to improve the management of workplace stress and conflict in own area of responsibility
  • Tutorial: Delegates will be guided and supported with assignment work

Assessment

 

To achieve the Award candidates must:

  • Attend all the workshops
  • Complete the independent work between workshops
  • Complete assessed pieces of written work
  • Complete Reflective Reviews and short answer questions
