Emergency First Aid at Work

Programme Overview

This HSE accredited course lasts one day and covers the essential of first aid through a variety of theoretical input and practical demonstrations. The participants will have the opportunity to discuss and practice first aid procedures applicable to adults, babies and children and can be adapted to any work situation.
 

Course Objectives

The course includes:

• What to do in an emergency
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• First aid for the unconscious casualty
• First aid for the wounded or bleeding
   

Course Content

By the end of the course the student should be able to:

• Manage a first aid incident.
• Demonstrate the recovery position.
• Demonstrate cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (mouth to mouth).
• Manage a heart attack.
• Recognise and manage anaphylactic shock
• Recognise and manage meningitis
• Recognise and manage strokes
• Recognise and manage absence seizures
• Deal with breathing problems/ choking
• Deal with bleeding.
• Demonstrate how to deal with strains, sprains and fractures
• Recognize reasons for loss of consciousness e.g. alcohol /diabetes
• Understand the importance of the first aid kit and reporting of accidents
