First Aid for Appointed Persons

Programme Overview

This course is suitable for the appointed person to comply with the Health and Safety First Aid  Regulations 1981. The course will run a minimum of 4 hours and covers duties and responsibilities of the appointed person as well as emergency first aid as recommended by the HSE.

Course Objectives

The course includes:

  • The duties of an ‘Appointed Person’
  • What to do in an emergency
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • First aid for the unconscious casualty
  • First aid for the wounded or bleeding
     

Course Content

By the end of the course the delegate should be able to:

  • Manage a first aid incident.
  • Demonstrate the recovery position.
  • Demonstrate cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (mouth to mouth).
  • Demonstrate how to manage a heart attack.
  • Demonstrate how to deal with breathing problems.
  • Demonstrate how to deal with bleeding.
  • Demonstrate how to deal with suspected broken bones.
  • Understand the importance of the first aid kit and the accident book.
