PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)

Duration: 3.5 Days

The Edexcel Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (QCF) is an introductory teaching qualification that prepares learners for teaching in a wide range of contexts.

These qualifications give learners the opportunity to:

  • Develop knowledge related to teaching and learning in an associate teaching role
  • Develop skills in teaching and learning
  • Achieve a nationally-recognised Level 3 qualification
  • Develop personal growth and engagement in learning.

This qualification will give learners an introduction to the requirements within the lifelong learning sector; It does not qualify a learner to become a teacher, but gives the basic knowledge and understanding of the requirements of a teacher.

The qualification runs over 3 days; the first two days consisting of workshop delivery, the first day an assessment session, where learners will deliver their own micro teach session to their peers. The final half day session is a tutorial where all final assessment is completed. Micro-teach sessions are peer and tutor assessed.

Who is the Course For?

The BTEC Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector offers support for learners who are over 19 and want a basic introduction into teaching and skills required within this sector, including trainers, internal tutors, employment coaches and mentors. Learners will achieve a basic minimum standard for entering the lifelong learning sector of the teaching profession.

Candidate Requirements

Candidates are required to:

  • Complete any independent work required between workshops
  • Complete Reflective Reviews of Exercises*
  • Complete and submit Assignments*
  • Complete or Attend Assessments*

Principles of Assessment in Lifelong Learning

  • Understand types and methods of assessment used in lifelong learning
  • Understand ways to involve learners in the assessment process
  • Understand requirement for keep records of assessment in lifelong learning.

Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Lifelong Learning

  • Understand own role and responsibilities in lifelong learning
  • Understand the relationships between teachers and other professionals in lifelong learning
  • Understand own responsibility for maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment.

What will the Course Cover?

You will cover a vast range of topics from within the lifelong learning sector.

As part of this qualification learners will cover the following 3 units:

  • Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Lifelong Learning
  • Facilitate Learning and Development in Groups
  • Principles of Assessment in Lifelong Learning

Following the complete of these knowledge units, learners will demonstrate that they can deliver a short 15 minute teaching session and are able to effectively assess their peers. They will be able to explain the roles of a teacher/trainer, the skills that are required, the assessment & teaching strategies they can employ and the legislation linked to lifelong learning.

Pre-Course Preparation and Assessment

There is a requirement to complete a short initial assessment and CV, before commencement of the programme.

Assessment of the qualification is made through:

  • Knowledge Assignment for Unit 1-3
  • Micro Teach & Observation
