Trying out a new job by working in the warehouse at Insurgo, John praised her motivation and determination to complete her qualification. Highly thought of by senior management, Elliemay’s confidence in understanding procedures means she now works unsupervised.
We caught up with her to hear more about her experience…
Congratulations on winning our Learner of the Month award, Elliemay! Could you tell us a bit more about yourself?
I’m Elliemay Lowman. I work at Insurgo in the warehouse and my supervisor is Rob Miles. I took the Level 2 Warehouse and Storage apprenticeship.
What does a typical working day look like for you?
We look after tape media and sell tape media to customers.
What appealed to you about your role with Insurgo?
I wanted to see what it would be like working in a warehouse because it’s the first time I’ve done it. You’ve got to know lots about tapes!
Has the apprenticeship improved how you do your job?
Yeah, it has. It helped me improve my writing a lot.
Let’s talk about your Training Advisor, John…
He always asks me about my day and checks in with how I am.

How did your employer support you?
They tell me that I’m doing a good job with the apprenticeship and give me time to work on my assignments too.
What motivates you to learn?
Having more knowledge.
Do you think taking an apprenticeship has changed your life in some way?
I would say my confidence – I don’t really like talking in front of people!
What advice would you give to people thinking of taking up an apprenticeship?
Try it out. Just keep doing it and it’ll get easier.
What are your career aspirations? Where will we see you in 10 years?
I think I’ll still be here, at Insurgo.
We’re looking forward to seeing where your career takes you, Ellie!
