ILM course qualifications stand out in the market as one of the most effective ways to develop leaders, managers and coaches.

The courses are proven to perform on an individual level plus achieve increased return on investment (ROI) for businesses with ILM in the ranks.

Key points:

  • 78% of employers said investing in ILM training increased their income
  • 94% of businesses would recommend ILM qualifications to another organisation
  • 90% of learners said they could apply what they leant during an ILM course in their day job*

Why is ILM a popular leadership and management qualification?

There is a large range of ILM courses, provided at various levels to target the management and leadership skills required in different roles.

The courses are thorough and most importantly, relevant. Because ILM actively measures its performance and what aspects of the qualification make an impact in the workplace, it consistently reviews the course syllabus for relevancy. The needs of employers and learners are always met.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. The data shows that almost every organisation and learner that applies ILM principles will realise the benefits of the qualification.

As an approved ILM training provider, we have witnessed the many benefits for leaders, managers and organisations, that come from participating in ILM qualifications.

Let's look at the headlines.

What are the benefits?

Internationally recognised qualifications travel well

Through ILM, learners can achieve an internationally recognised qualification awarded by The City and Guilds of London Institute, backed by a Royal Charter. The fact that ILM qualifications are globally recognised means they ‘travel well’. You can take the certificate anywhere in the world and it will be respected.

Vocational qualifications that deliver real-world skills

The majority of ILM’s qualifications and courses give learners the skills, knowledge and experience the need to do a management job in the real world.

According to research by Harris Interactive, 90% (9 in 10) learners said they were able to apply the leadership and management skills learnt through ILM to their day-to-day job role and would recommend ILM’s qualifications, programmes and/or apprenticeships.*

ILM Qualifications are highly recommended by employers

The great thing about ILM courses is that you know what you are getting.

94% of employers say they would recommend ILM’s qualifications to another organisation looking to improve leadership and management skills. The benefit to learners and organisations is in knowing that you are making a sound investment in your development.

A quick impact on management skills and knowledge

If you are investing your money and time in leadership and/or management development, it's generally because you want to see a measurable improvement in skills and knowledge.

The hope is that this translates into better on-the-job management performance.

The good news is that 88% of employers say their business was immediately positively impacted by ILM training programmes*.

In our experience and based on the evaluation data collected on TSW’s courses, most learners feel their ILM training will have an immediate impact on their performance.

Viewed positively by employers and employees

A real benefit of taking and/or investing in ILM qualifications is that they are viewed very positively in the market.

This can only be good for organisations that want to recruit, develop and retain the best people.

For organisations, you can be assured that a prospective employee has received a high level of training and a current employee is getting the best opportunity to develop.

ILM qualifications are often cited as motivating employees because they perceive that their employer is investing in their development.

For individual learners, ILM certification is an effective way of increasing your chances of promotion or employment.

Having an ILM qualification on your cv could mean the difference between you and a similar candidate. It certainly won’t harm your chances by having an approved qualification to show.

Every learner gets a membership to the Institute Of Leadership and Management

Any learner that registers on an ILM qualification is provided a free 12-month studying membership.

You'll have access to ILM’s online portal, which has a boatload of research and expert knowledge on all things leadership, management and coaching.

The portal includes e-learning, curated online resources, your personal learning record, career support tools, networking opportunities and forums, news updates, webinars, podcasts and much more. Plus, you get a copy of the ‘EDGE’ leadership journal.

Less time away from the workplace than traditional management development

Taking an ILM qualification is not as time-consuming as you might think.

The average ILM Level 3 Award in Leadership and Management will only need you to attend three days of training, four days for an ILM 5 Award.

Increasingly, you will find online ILM courses or blended qualifications that require some time in a classroom and some online.

ILM qualifications are very flexible, which is a great benefit in and of itself. Programmes can be tailored to fit your exact needs and delivered in a format of your choosing.

Develop a wide range of management and leadership skills

When you take an ILM training course you will be learning a wide range of skills and gaining knowledge in many areas. Topics you will almost certainly cover include:

  • Management communication
  • Performance management
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Planning
  • Goal-setting
  • Problem-solving and decision making
  • Delegation
  • Motivation
  • Team leadership

Plus, many more…

You will benefit from the expertise of your ILM course facilitator as well as the knowledge sharing from people in your cohort. Often, learners gain as much from networking with others on the course as they do from the course itself.

ILM’s deliver a proven return on investment for employers

78% of employers said ILM increased their income* - that's ROI to shout about.
