The CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) is a 5-day industry recognised course that covers a broad range of topics that will equip the delegate with the necessary knowledge to comply with associated legislation to ensure healthy and safe conditions for construction site employees. Delegates will gain the knowledge required to comply with legislation and regulations within a construction environment, such as the Health and Safety Act 1974.

The course will cover:

  • The Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations
  • Risk assessments/method statements
  • Recent changes in accepted working practices
  • Behavioural safety
  • Management of occupational health
  • Electricity
  • Excavations
  • Confined Spaces
  • Working at heighs
  • Scaffolding
  • Demolition

This course is ideal for individuals who manage or supervise construction sites including:

  • Project managers
  • Site managers
  • Senior supervisors
  • Proprietors of small to medium sized companies

Pre-course preparation

There is no pre-course preparation required to attend this course however a good understanding of spoken and written English is ideal.

Assessment

This qualification is assessed through continuous assessment via individual and group exercises with a multiple-choice examination. Upon successfully completing the course you will be awarded a CITB Site Safety Plus certificate. This qualification must be renewed every five years by attending the SMSTS Refresher course.
