The ISEP Foundation Certificate is assessed via a one-hour, multiple-choice online examination.
It’s an open-book exam, which means you can access your course notes during the exam.
You will be given a 28-day window for submitting the assessments, typically the 1st to 28th of every month.
ISEP will provide login details, and you can log in anytime during this window to take the test. Once you start the test, it must be done in one sitting.
Your exam result is displayed immediately following completion, so there is no need to wait to find out if you have been successful.

If you fail the Foundation Certificate exam on your first sitting, don’t worry.
Every learner can re-sit the examination by re-registering either directly through IEMA or through their IEMA Training Centre and sitting the examination during the next available exam window.
There is no limit to the number of examination re-sits a candidate can take; the first re-sit can be taken free of charge, but thereafter re-sit fees apply.
The IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management is not a regulated qualification. Therefore it does not have an official level.
The qualification provides an introduction to environmental sustainability and management and is suitable for individuals who want to understand environmental issues and their impacts on businesses, organisations, and society.
As an equivalent to similar qualifications, the Foundation is estimated to be equivalent to a level 3.
…you can become an Associate Member of ISEP by registering for the Associate exam direct with ISEP.
The exam, which is available monthly, consists of an online multiple-choice test that lasts one hour. You will have the option to select either the environment or sustainability version of the exam.
…you are eligible to fast-track your associate application. When you apply, select that you are eligible for the fast-track. When you do this, you will be asked to provide a valid copy of your course certificate.

The fee to become an Associate Member is £245.50, which includes an application fee and your year 1 membership fee.
If you take the Foundation course with TSW, these first-year fees are all included in the price.
There is a £154.50 annual renewal fee, payable to IEMA.
To renew your AIEMA membership, you must log in to the MyIEMA portal, where you can find and pay your invoice.
No, your certificate will not expire. Once you have taken the course and gained your certificate you won’t need to re-take the course or participate in a refresher course.
