This ISO9001 Lead Auditor Course is certified by the CQI and IRCA. It adopts an active learning approach designed to allow trainees to practice each audit stage, using ISO 9001 as the base standard for training.

Your successful completion of the qualification will satisfy the training requirements for CQI and IRCA certification to all grades of Quality Management Systems Auditor.

The training focuses on the key elements of ISO 9001:2015, including process management, measurement and improvement, and is highly practical and interactive with participants participating in live audit sessions.

The course is run in conjunction with Managing for Quality, which is the ATP for CQI and IRCA. MFQ logo

This course is designed for delegates who must carry out and lead audits to contribute effectively to systems improvement in their organisations.

Course Pre-requisites

CQI and IRCA expect delegates to have prior knowledge of the following quality management principles and concepts before taking the course:

  • The Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) cycle.
  • The relationship between quality management and customer satisfaction.
  • Commonly used quality management terms and definitions, and the 8 Quality Principles as given in ISO 9001:2015.
  • The process approach that is used in quality management.
  • The Model of a Process-Based Quality Management System, the structure and content of ISO 9001:2015.
  • Knowledge of the requirements of ISO 9001:2015, which may be gained by on-the-job experience through self-study or completing an IRCA-certified QMS Foundation training course or equivalent, such as the ISO9001 Internal Auditor Course

Course Content

In summary, the topics covered in the course include:

  • CQI and IRCA Auditor and certification scheme – registration process, code of conduct
  • Audit Preparation – audit planning, document review and preparation techniques
  • Audit Techniques – audit trails, audit interviewing and evidence gathering
  • Audit Reporting against the requirements of ISO 9001 – including nonconformities, observations, corrective action programmes, closing meetings and written report
  • Audit Follow-up Surveillance and & closeout – verification of corrective actions

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, trainees will be able to:

  • Describe the purpose of a QMS and explain the principles of quality management
  • Explain the purpose, content and interrelationship of ISO 9000, ISO 9001, ISO 9004 and ISO 19011
  • Interpret requirements of ISO 9001 in the context of an audit
  • Describe the roles and responsibilities of auditors and lead auditors
  • Plan and conduct an audit in accordance with ISO 19011 to demonstrate the ability to plan and prepare effectively
  • Gather objective evidence through effective interviewing, observation, sampling and note-taking
  • Analyse and interpret information in order to determine conformance with requirements
  • Report the audit, including writing valid, factual and value-adding nonconformity reports
  • Undertake audit follow-up activities, including evaluating the effectiveness of corrective action

There is a two-hour written examination at the end of this course. The exam’s content will be based on the materials provided during the course. Participants will need to achieve a pass mark of 70% to complete the course successfully.

Delegates will also be continuously assessed by the course tutor in various areas over the 5 days.
