Learning Outcomes

At the end of the NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety, you will have a solid technical foundation of understanding and knowledge of fire safety. You’ll be able to provide fire safety expertise and be equipped to positively influence your fire safety culture and encourage safer employee behaviour.

  • Justify fire safety improvements using moral and financial arguments
  • Advise how fires and explosions can occur and the appropriate controls to minimise fire and explosion risk
  • Advise your employer about fire protection requirements for premises and tell workers about the appropriate training obligations
  • Complete a fire risk assessment in your workplace, prioritising risks, inspecting the workplace, recognising a range of common fire hazards, and evaluating risks (taking account of current controls), plus recommending further control measures and planning actions

How is this Course Assessed?

  • The eight-hour assessment comprises an open book exam (Unit FSC1: Fire Safety) and assessed assignment (Unit FSC2: Fire risk assessment). 
  • In the five-hour exam, you will answer questions about fire safety in a realistic workplace and situation. You’ll also need to use the evidence presented in the scenario to complete a series of tasks. To pass the assessment, you must demonstrate everything you have learned throughout the course. 
  • The three-hour assignment asks you to complete a fire risk assessment using a fire risk assessment standard (like the Home Office fire guidance and PAS79-1:2020).

To earn the qualification, you must attend 28 hours with a trainer, plus complete 20 hours of private study.

Your results will always arrive within 50 days of submitting your exam and practical assessment.
