The qualification is broken down into two units, the EMC1 and EMC2:
Unit EMC1 is an open-book digital assessment taken remotely via NEBOSH’s platform. Delegates have 24 hours to access, complete and submit their paper, starting from 11 am (UK time) on the chosen examination date.
The pass mark for the EMC1 exam is 45+.
Unit EMC2 requires the candidate to conduct an environmental review of a workplace or organisation and produce a justified action plan to improve performance.
This practical application must be completed and returned to TSW within 10 working days of the exam date provided.
You’re assessed based on your ability to demonstrate awareness of environmental issues. You must recognise, explain, discuss and plan strategies to manage environmental factors, creating positive ethical and fiscal outcomes that benefit your business.

The course consists of two units: EMC1 (Environmental Management) and EMC2 (Assessing Environmental Aspects and Associated Impacts).
It includes 34 taught hours, 25 hours of private study, and approximately 8 hours to be spent on assessments, totalling 67 hours.
The provisional pass mark for Unit EMC1 is 45%. For Unit EMC2, the pass standard is 100%, meaning all assessment guidance standards must be met.
A ‘Pass’ must be achieved in both units to be awarded the qualification.
