Learning Outcomes

At the end of the NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety, you will have a solid technical foundation of understanding and knowledge of fire safety. You’ll be able to provide fire safety expertise and be equipped to positively influence your fire safety culture and encourage safer employee behaviour.

  • Justify fire safety improvements using moral and financial arguments
  • Advise how fires and explosions can occur and the appropriate controls to minimise fire and explosion risk
  • Advise your employer about fire protection requirements for premises and tell workers about the appropriate training obligations
  • Complete a fire risk assessment in your workplace, prioritising risks, inspecting the workplace, recognising a range of common fire hazards, and evaluating risks (taking account of current controls), plus recommending further control measures and planning actions

The qualification assessment process for the NEBOSH Fire involves two steps:

  • The first step is an open-book examination, which you can complete at home or in a suitable and distraction-free environment. You will receive a realistic workplace scenario and be required to complete tasks using the provided evidence and your acquired knowledge within 24 hours, although it should take around 4-5 hours.
  • The second step is a practical fire risk assessment based on standards like the Home Office fire guidance and PAS79-1:2020. While there is no time limit, it’s recommended to spend about three hours to ensure a thorough and high-quality assessment comprising four parts.

Both assessments will be evaluated by an external NEBOSH-appointed examiner chosen for their industry expertise and experience, ensuring learners are assessed by top professionals.
